Long-Term Care

Care at home or in a facility is the biggest financial blind spot in retirement — planning for it protects everything you’ve built.

Long-term care covers the help most of us eventually need with daily activities — bathing, dressing, meals, memory care. Medicare doesn’t cover it. Medicaid does, but only after spending nearly everything down. That leaves one honest option for most families: plan ahead while you still qualify and prices are still manageable.

A 65-year-old couple faces roughly a 70% chance of needing some long-term care. Without a plan, the cost lands on the healthy spouse first, then the children. With a plan — hybrid life/LTC policies, short-term care, or a deliberate savings strategy — it becomes a line item instead of a crisis. We’ll look at all of them honestly, including “self-fund if you can.”

What It Covers

The protection, piece by piece.

Hybrid life + LTC policies

Life insurance that unlocks a long-term-care benefit if you need one — if you never do, your heirs still receive the death benefit.

Short-term care solutions

One- to two-year coverage with simpler underwriting — a practical bridge for those who missed traditional LTC windows.

Home-care focused plans

Most people prefer care at home. These plans pay for home aides, homemakers, and adult day services first.

Family strategy sessions

Who makes decisions, where the money sits, what documents exist — clarity your family will thank you for.

My Process

How we get you covered.

Every recommendation runs through the same four steps — whether you’re choosing long-term care or any other coverage I offer.

  1. Honest needs assessment

We look at your health, family history, savings, and what you’d actually want care-wise — then whether insurance even makes sense.

  2. Compare the structures

Hybrid vs. traditional vs. short-term vs. self-fund — costs, benefit periods, inflation riders, and claim realities side by side.

  3. Underwriting pre-check

Before you apply, I gauge which carriers will likely approve you, so you avoid declines on your record.

  4. Family alignment

Once in force, we document the plan so your family knows exactly how it works if the day comes.

Common Questions

About Long-Term Care.

Still curious? Call (415) 891-9797 — I answer these calls myself.

Doesn’t Medicare pay for nursing homes?

Only short-term skilled care after a hospital stay (up to 100 days with coinsurance) — custodial long-term care is not covered. That’s the gap most people discover too late.

I’m 67 — is it too late to get coverage?

Not necessarily. Many carriers issue hybrid policies into your late 60s and early 70s, and short-term care often has lenient underwriting. We’ll see what you qualify for before talking prices.

What if I never need the care?

With hybrid life/LTC designs, the benefit passes to your beneficiaries. With traditional LTC, premiums buy peace of mind only — we’ll discuss both realities before you decide.
